Nicole Farhi Pea Coat

A black Nicole Farhi Pea Coat caught my eye today in menu… you can see it by going to Nicole Farhi -> Collections and it is the lead menswear image. It was rather expensive (£350). I may investigate further during the New Year sales.

New coat

I’ve bought a new coat.

It’s very smart – grey with a faint tweed pattern and is knee-length, made of cotton/wool. It is slightly reminiscent of coats from 1960s British gangster films.
Made by Gibson (?), it was £150 from Jake’s in Soho.

Massimo Dutti

Massimo Dutti is a worldwide chain – with a large London branch in Regent Street. From outside, you’d think that suits would be £700+, but you’d be surprised.

I recently bought my wedding suit here – and it was a very reasonable £270. A lilac shirt was similarly reasonable at £42. They also sell jumpers, wonderfully soft leather jackets, shoes and most “smart” clothes and accessories.

They also had a watch at £95 I was very keen on – but I suspect it was quartz, and I am too lazy to get the batteries replaced on quartz watches I currently own!

More New Year Sales

Bailey in New Bond Street has a very good sale on: shirts, trousers, jeans, t-shirts, polo shirts and some very nice coats half price.

Additionally Jake’s (formerly known as Plum) on Berwick Street has their Burlington Argyle-style jumpers half price and very warm Penfield jackets half price too, a bargain at £75.

M Lussan 2 Jacket by Fenchurch

I am always a sucker for chocolate brown, so a jacket from Fenchurch whose colour is described as “Death By Choc” is always going to catch the eye.

The M Lussan 2 Moleskin Jacket looks great, and in stock in their Covent Garden shop at £100.

Esprit Jumpers & Zara coats

A recent trip to Copenhagen brought back 2 purchases.

a gangster-esque coat from Zara, and a jumper from Esprit (previously only notable for having about 1000 stores in Singapore).

zara jumper

Denmark is a very expensive place to shop, and pan-European shops like Esprit, which have prices in all the major currencies on the tickets illustrate this (an £8 Danish premium on the jumper).

Selfridges Sale

Posted on by 0 comment

Selfridges are currently having a very large sale.

Items available include Gieves & Hawkes shirts reduced from £79 to £59 for the merchant banker in your life and lots of reductions on Duffer of St George amongst many others. Unfortunately the Nigel Hall tank top I bought wasn’t reduced.

I was quite keen on the Ralph Lauren & Le Tigre polo shirts, but they were full price (£49).

There is also the largest amount of foul near-day-glo Ralph Lauren shirts I’ve ever seen in one place before.

6876 Anorak
Perusing the shops of Covent Garden on Saturday it seemed that the anorak/cagoule/windcheater is back. Out has gone the high-tech, gore-tex, extreme rambler look, replaced by a more retro, classic style. 6876 have gone for the full blown, yellow, Souwester look (see above) but cut it in a nice causal shape that looks surprisingly smart. Boxfresh have gone for a more, murky, almost camoflague look, however best of all is the ever reliable Penguin. Navy blue with white piping (unfortunately no images online) it’s the kind of thing that would have got you beaten up at school admittedly. Now however, combined with a short-sleeve check shirt, it rocks a preppy Happy Days look. Available in Urban Outfitters, Covent Garden
